International Employment Officer / Compliance Officer

A member of the prestigious Russell Group, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) employs academic, research and non-academic staff from a wide variety of backgrounds and countries. The Human Resources Department works in support of the three academic faculties to provide a full range of professional HR services, including advice and guidance on international employment and immigration legislation.

We are seeking an International Employment & Compliance Officer who will work closely with the HR Services Manager to ensure we fulfil our obligations to the UK Visa & Immigration Service (UKVI) as a sponsor licence holder. In this role, you will review and issue Certificates of Sponsorship for qualifying posts, monitor and report absences for migrant workers and provide regular training and briefing sessions to HR colleagues and line managers to improve understanding of our responsibilities and related QMUL policies and procedures. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic area of HR, keeping up-to-date with legislative changes, particularly in preparation for Brexit.

To apply for this role, you will have a degree (or equivalent professional experience) and an expert knowledge of UK immigration legislation and associated UK Visa & Immigration Service guidance for employment purposes. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate the ability to deliver training and briefing sessions to a variety of audiences and you will have excellent written communication skills. Experience of working in a higher education institution and / or experience of editing webpages and developing e-learning products is desirable. The post is available on a full time or part time (from 0.7 FTE to 1.0 FTE) and indefinite basis, with an expected start date in September 2017. The starting salary will be in the range £32,405 to £38,062 per annum (pro rata for a part-time appointment), inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave (pro rata), a defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
