Service Manager for Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology

We are currently recruiting for a full time member of staff to take on the role of IT Service Manager supporting the Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology. The purpose of this post is to manage the delivery of IT services to staff and research post graduates and act as a bridge between central ISD and our customers in three research intensive units; The MRC Clinical Trials Unit, The Comprehensive Clinical Trials Unit and The MRC Unit for Lifelong Health and Ageing.

The post holder will lead a small team of 1st, 2nd and 3rd line staff providing local IT support. They will also be responsible for managing the provision of virtualized infrastructure hosting clinical trials systems. The service manager will working closely with the data management team within the MRC CTU and members of ISD Data Centre Services to deliver resilient, secure systems used in clinical trials.

This post is funded until 31 March 2021 initially.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a both management and technical skills as part of the application. The post holder requires previous experience of delivering excellent service in a customer-facing role, experience of managing IT support teams in customer facing roles, previous knowledge and experience of ITIL v3 service management framework. They also require significant technical skills including Windows client and server administration, networking, virtualized environments and Active Directory administration.

The department is expected to go through a period of significant technology change so experience of project and/or change management would be an advantage.
