Research Associate

University of Cambridge - Department of Pharmacology

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate position in the laboratory of Dr. Walid Khaled. The successful candidate will work on a project funded by Breast Cancer Now aimed at the identification and characterization of novel protein-protein interactions in triple negative breast cancer.

Applicants should have, or expect to obtain shortly, a PhD in the life sciences and have demonstrable experience in studying protein-protein interactions and/or a strong interest in cancer biology. The candidates will need to have strong experience in the following techniques: cell culture, molecular biology (cloning), proteomics, biochemical assays or biophysical assays. It will also be desirable if the candidate has experience in working with GEMM and NGS data analysis. You must be a careful and methodical worker, accurate and ready to take responsibility as part of a team. You should be self-motivated and able to organise, perform and analyse experiments with minimal instruction. You will have several years of previous laboratory experience and be capable of working efficiently and productively without direct supervision. The post will require some weekend work. Careful observation and accurate computer-based record keeping and presentation are essential.

The successful candidate will join the Epithelial Tumour Biology group led by Dr Khaled, studying various aspects of triple negative breast cancer and squamous lung carcinoma. With a wide range of expertise, team members regularly collaborate amongst themselves and with scientists from other Cambridge Institutes. The successful candidate is expected to interact and work closely with other members of the team.

The Department holds an Athena SWAN bronze award, demonstrating a commitment to provide equal opportunities and to advance the representation of women in science subjects. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates irrespective of gender but, as women are currently under-represented at this level in our department, we strongly encourage applications from female candidates. Appointment will be based on merit alone.

The closing date is 30th September 2017. Interviews will be carried out as applications are received.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance but may be extended to 3 years for the right applicant.
