A postdoctoral Research Associate is required immediately to work on an 18-month project funded by the Little Princess Trust, to investigate the epigenetic deregulation of splicing factors in Wilms' tumour (WT), a common childhood kidney cancer. Molecular and cell biology methods will be used to examine how epigenetic inactivation of the splicing regulator ESRP2 acts as a tumour suppressor in WT by:

  1. Identifying target genes whose expression and /or splicing is regulated by ESRP2 in WT cells and kidney cells.
  2. Determining the biological effects of ESRP2 in WT cells and kidney cells.

The project involves collaboration between members of the Cancer Epigenetics Laboratory in the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (Dr Keith Brown and Dr Karim Malik) and with Dr Sebastian Oltean (University of Exeter). This combination will give the candidate access to expertise in technologies covering both epigenetic modifications and cell functional analyses. The project would suit a recently qualified PhD graduate with expertise in mammalian molecular and cell biology.
