Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Theoretical Quantum Information Science

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Macquarie University (MQ) in Sydney Australia is making a substantial investment to grow its research capacity in quantum science and seeks to appoint an outstanding candidate to a continuing position as Lecturer (level B) or Senior Lecturer (level C).

The Department comprises around 32 academic staff with international research profiles and world class facilities in quantum science and technology, photonics and laser science, and astronomy. We teach full undergraduate and postgraduate programs in physics and astronomy with an emphasis on research-informed teaching and training graduates who are prepared for all kinds of careers.

Macquarie hosts four quantum science laboratories with facilities on campus and at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO, Lindfield). It hosts the Centre for Quantum Science and Technology (QSciTech) with expertise in quantum optics, quantum algorithms, quantum thermodynamics, integrated photonics, nanomaterials, topological order, and quantum foundations. The University is investing in staff and facilities for a Quantum Engineering Initiative committed to building quantum-enabled technologies and to training the next generation of quantum engineers.

The Department is strongly committed to the principles of growing gender equity and diversity in its staff and student bodies, and maintains an active Equity and Diversity Committee. We hold a Bronze level Pleiades award from the Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity in Astronomy chapter of the Astronomical Society of Australia.
