Open-rank Faculty Position in Pre-Modern Arabic Literature and Nahḍa

The Department of Arabic and Near Eastern Languages at the American University of Beirut seeks applicants for an open rank position in the field of Pre-modern Arabic Literature and/or Nahḍa. The position will begin on August 15, 2018. Scholars conducting research on Mamluk and Ottoman Arabic literature are especially welcome to apply. The language of instruction in this department (and only in this department) is Standard Arabic (fuṣḥā), but mastery of English is an essential requirement. Applicants should be well versed in both Arabic and Western classical literary heritages. A reading knowledge of French and/or German is highly desirable. In addition to teaching courses in their field of specialization, the successful candidate will be required to teach, in Arabic, humanities courses to native speakers of Arabic.
