Associate Professor in Science Education

The role:

Based in one of the UK’s very best Education departments, with an outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching, research and employability of our students, you will make a significant contribution to research and teaching alike. Taking on a major role in our Outstanding rated ITE teaching programmes, you will teach Science subjects and pedagogical knowledge to BA Primary Education and PGCE Primary and Secondary students. You will enjoy a wide range of responsibilities - from contributing to training on classroom practice, to overseeing students on placement, to preparing and supporting Masters’ level assignments. Crucially, you will secure funding for, and carry out world class research that is characterised by its originality, significance and rigour.

Youll need:

  • A good first-degree in a Science subject, preferably Biology, complemented by a PhD in an Education related subject.
  • The ability to produce research into Science Education that is recognised as internationally excellent, including a research plan which supports the activities of the department.
  • Proof that you have established and led research groups, and recruited and supervised PhD students.
  • An innovative approach to designing and delivering high quality teaching or assessment of learning - from lectures, to small groups, to the use of technology.
  • Qualified Teacher and HEA (or equivalent) status, with experience of working as a teacher in UK secondary schools, knowledge of the latest initiatives in teacher education, and the ability to teach our students to an exceptional standard.
  • Confident leadership and communication skills, with the willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team.
