Salary Range:
Research Assistant: £32,380 – £34,040 per annum
Research Associate: £36,800 – £44,220 per annum*
(Maximum salary on appointment will be £39,800 per annum)

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/ Associate in the Department of Bioengineering to contribute to a Global Challenges research programme. The Global Challenges Research Fund is a key component in the delivery of the UK Aid Strategy, tackling global challenges in the national interest. The fund aims to ensure that UK research takes a leading role in addressing the problems faced by developing countries.

Landmine explosions are a leading cause of traumatic amputation in Sri Lanka today. Ninety percent of Sri Lanka’s estimated 160,000 amputees lack proper prosthetic limbs and as such are denied a suitable quality of life following injury. The research programme seeks to develop and clinically deploy appropriate technology for limb salvage. Building on our prior work we will seek to develop a thriving research community between the UK, Sri Lanka, and Lebanon, integrating trauma practice, engineering and clinical research.

We seek a highly motivated individual in possession of a first class, or upper second class, degree (or equivalent) in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering or related subject. Experience in finite element analysis, statistical shape modelling and musculoskeletal simulations is essential. A PhD in Biomechanics or a related subject (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.

We are based in the Department of Bioengineering, a newly refurbished space with excellent research facilities. The appointment is funded via the National Institute for Health Research and is full-time for a fixed-term until 31 July 2020. This post will be based at the South Kensington Campus.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 to £34,040 per annum.
