Postdoctoral Research Associate

This new full-time post is available immediately on a fixed term basis until 30 September 2019.

The College wishes to recruit an Associate Research Fellow to participate in a JDRF funded research project that is investigating the possible role of enteroviral infection in the aetiology of type 1 diabetes. The project will employ immunocytochemical, molecular and cell biological approaches to study the development and persistence of enteroviral infections in pancreas samples from individuals with type 1 diabetes. Use will also be made of cell culture systems to model the infection process in vitro. The work is highly collaborative and will involve investigators from across Europe and the USA to allow the application of combined approaches to problem solving.

The successful applicant will develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.

Applicants will possess a PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a relevant field of study. The successful applicant will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. They must be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and contribute fully to team goals. Applicants will have an excellent training including, ideally, experience in techniques relevant to molecular and cell biology, immunohistochemistry and/or confocal microscopy.
