Fixed Term Position: 6 Months

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work on a project which aims to quantify flight behaviours of mosquitoes.

You will be responsible for supporting the deployment of mosquito tracking systems to study Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes that are responsible for disease transmission of dengue and Zika. You will develop optical imaging systems and customise existing software for data analysis.

The project is in collaboration with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Fiocruz in Recife, Brazil.

You will have, or be close to submitting, a PhD in optical engineering or a related subject, and possess a range of quantitative and qualitative research skills relating to areas of imaging and data processing and have an awareness of handling and processing biological data. You will have a record of academic publications, and IT and communication skills and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure. Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of the level 6 of the University grade structure.
