EPSRC-sponsored project on Frontier Manufacturing: Scaling Up Synthetic Biology

Fixed Term post for 18 months

A Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position is available within the Centre for Process Systems Engineering ( under the supervision of Professor Nilay Shah and Dr Cleo Kontoravdi. The position will focus on the design of novel process concepts for scaling up synthetic biology for healthcare applications. The PDRA will join an interdisciplinary team of Researchers at the Departments of Chemistry, Life Sciences, Chemical Engineering and the Centre for Synthetic Biology and Innovation (CSynBI) at Imperial College London, sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. We are looking for candidates who hold or are near completion of a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering or Synthetic Biology with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Protein design and engineering
  • Protein synthesis in microbial and/or mammalian cells
  • In vitro protein modification
  • Cell-free protein synthesis (desirable)

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 - £34,040 per annum
