North West Cancer Research Fellow

Lancaster University - Biomedical and Life Sciences

Interview Date: 19 October 2017

Lancaster University has a world-class reputation as a centre for excellence in teaching and research. It is in the top one per cent of universities in the world and highly ranked in each of the UK’s major university league tables. The University benefits from a close relationship with North West Cancer Research, an independent cancer research charity that funds projects aimed at fighting cancers in North West England and North Wales.

Working together, the University and NWCR seek to enhance the cancer research programme at Lancaster by appointing a Research Fellow (and a Lecturer see advert number A2019) in the area of cancer biology. The Research Fellow post comes with five years’ research consumables support and a PhD studentship. At the end of the five year Fellowship period the post will progress automatically to an indefinite Lectureship (subject to the initial probation period). The posts will be held in the rapidly growing, innovative and vibrant Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences, within the Faculty of Health and Medicine, whose research effort is directed towards understanding basic cellular and physiological mechanisms that underpin disease states.

We are looking for dynamic individuals who will participate fully in the intellectual and collective life of the division and take part in outreach events associated with the charity. You should have clear plans for a five-year programme of research and publications at a level appropriate for the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 and beyond. You should also be enthusiastic and keen to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at a level appropriate for the post you are applying for.

In return the Division can offer you a friendly research environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee and which actively promotes a healthy work-life balance. The Faculty is committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies and has held a Silver Athena SWAN award since 2014 in recognition of its good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.
