Details of post

This ARUK funded post will study the link between diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. Specifically, the project will investigate the degenerative events triggered by hBACE1 in the hippocampus and hypothalamus, and establish whether there is a link between APP cleavage, neurodegeneration and metabolic dysregulation. Research will employ innovative techniques to characterise proteinopathies and explore phenotypes and pathologies of our novel PLB4 mouse model, which presents with dementia and diabetes relevant symptomatology. Additionally, regional viral transfection and drug discovery components are part of the project. Biochemical/histological analyses and behavioural testing skills will be required.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Professor Bettina Platt (e-mail: b.platt@abdn.ac.uk; Tel: 01224 437402) and/or Professor Gernot Riedel (e-mail: g.riedel@abdn.ac.uk; Tel: 01224 437377).
