Lecturer in Political Economy of Development

SOAS University of London - Department of Development Studies

This post is fixed-term for 12 months, immediate start.

The role and its responsibilities

We are recruiting a scholar with an excellent research record, or outstanding research potential, and knowledge of economic development/political economy and with an interest in the interdisciplinary field of international development. We welcome applications from people with any specialist interest in economic development. We will assess candidates on their potential as much as demonstrable experience. The successful candidate will have a strong geographical specialisation in a developing economy country or region. We particularly encourage applicants with a background in the more heterodox traditions of development political economy.

You will primarily contribute to teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate modules on the Political Economy of Development, including convening the first year BA module Introduction to the Political Economy of Development. Ability to teach on the War to Peace Transitions course would be an advantage but this is not a fundamental requirement. You will work closely with the Head of Department and relevant Programme Convenors. And you will be encouraged to pursue your research and publication agenda.

Skills and experience

You will have a PhD in a relevant subject and a strong record of (or potential for) excellence in research. You will show evidence of enthusiasm for teaching and an interest in the mission of SOAS and the Department of Development Studies
