Placements & Employability Officer

Teesside University - School of Science, Engineering & Design

Teesside University is a modern university, proud of our 85-year heritage and of our commitment to putting students at the heart of everything we do through significant investment in our estate, innovative teaching and research, and our unrivalled links with industry and the professions.

The primary focus of the role is to liaise with existing employers, already known to the School, and to develop new contacts with employers and placement providers relevant to Science, Engineering, and Design in order to grow the number and variety of placements, work related experiences (short placements, summer placements, shadowing etc.) and employability related opportunities available to under-graduate and post-graduate students.

A good honours degree in a scientific, engineering or design/technology discipline is an essential requirement. You must have a good understanding of the integration of placements, work related activities and employability related opportunities into and alongside academic courses. You must have knowledge of the processes by which student placements and internships are sourced, operated and administered and an understanding of the challenges students may face when engaging with employers. Excellent organisational and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to support and motivate students to invest in the development of skills, behaviours and competencies that will help them secure their desired role/career path.

The Tees Valley is an enjoyable place to live – in the heart of the North of England’s coastline and countryside, with easy access to Durham, Newcastle and York.
