Research Associate/Fellow in Educational Research and Innovation

An opportunity has arisen for a researcher with experience in educational research and social science methodologies to join the HEFCE-funded project “Come on in to our research labs”. This project is a learning and teaching innovation project, which aims to open-up and share our research laboratories and the science within, by bringing undergraduate and postgraduate research students together.  The project aims to provide undergraduate students with experiences of research and the research workplace, postgraduate research students with experience of mentoring, and will develop skills in science communication, creativity, team-working and networking in both UG and PGR contributors. 

The post-holder will lead the research component of the project, under the supervision of Dr Cristina De Matteis, and will support and contribute to the development and implementation of the teaching innovation.  

Applicants must have a good first degree in a Physical or Biological Science, in Education or other relevant subject, and a proven research track record. You will also have been awarded or submitted for a PhD in an area related to Educational Research.

You will have excellent relevant social science methodology skills, including first-hand experience in their use in educational research. You will have excellent communication skills, which are evident from written reports and publications, as well as presentations and discussions. In addition, you will be an effective team member with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research, in particular between Education and STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) subjects. Previous experience of educational research in STEM higher education will be highly desirable.

This part-time post (29 hours per week) is available with immediate effect, but has a fixed end date of the 30 April 2018. Applicants must be able to start no later than 1st November 2017.
