Purpose and Main Duties
We are looking to appoint a Biological Sciences Learning Support Officer in the Department of Biological Sciences in the School of Science. You will be part of our Teaching Team, working with Academics and Professional & Support staff to ensure effective learning development opportunities for student enrolled on the full range of courses in the Department of Biological Sciences. The primary purposes of the role are to increase student success, enhance retention and to help to fulfil the aims of the Strategy for Learning and Teaching Enhancement.

In the role of Biological Sciences Learning Support Officer, you will support and facilitate the development of a range of discipline specific study and core skills for students through the design, preparation and delivery of both class and individual learning opportunities and support for students, and through the coaching and mentoring of staff. You will work closely with Head of Teaching and other members of the Teaching Team.

Candidate Requirements
You will have good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific subject. You must have formal teaching experience with adult learners (HE or FE environment). Experience teaching research methods up to final year BSc is desirable. You must also have experience both of designing and delivering workshops and creating teaching resources.

You will have excellent communication, IT skills and organisational skills. You will need to be able to respond to the needs of individuals as well as students’ general needs. A commitment to working with diversity and working within a team are essential.

Salary: Grade 7 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £36,548 rising to £41,772 pro rata per annum.

This post is part-time, 17.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE) and open-ended. The salary quoted above will be pro-rata for this part time post and is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
