With an international reputation for the quality of its teaching and the UK’s number one law school for legal research the Department of Law has a varied and impactful range of events and activities that require the support of a communications professional.

The role offers an opportunity to develop and deliver an innovative communications strategy to a variety of audiences. The post holder will be free to work across print, digital, and social media to contribute towards the Department’s strategic goals including the building of community amongst our students and alumni, the dissemination of research, and engagement with the public and policy makers. Our public events and arts programme is one of the largest of any worldwide Law School. Its management and design is a key element of this role. As the Executive Editor the post holder will also be responsible for the delivery of the Department’s annual magazine, Ratio, which has a large distribution network publicising the work of the Department.

Responding to the varying needs of the Department that arise from research, teaching and public events the post holder will provide excellent support to our events programme, as well as implementing the Department’s communication strategy objectives, working with a variety of academics and professional services staff. You must have a proactive approach to your work with attention to delivering to timescales and making autonomous decisions regarding work priorities. You will have excellent IT skills (particularly in relation to InDesign and Photoshop) with exceptional attention to detail and a good sense of design. You will have a proven ability to use social media effectively within a professional context, and excellent communication skills to write and copy-edit for a range of purposes, styles and audiences.

Experience of working in an academic or similar environment will be an advantage. However, more important is demonstrable experience of having worked in busy and demanding environments whilst maintaining professionalism, accuracy and a creative approach to problem solving with demonstrable ability to make a positive impact within a team.
