SuperSTEM Research Fellow/Lectureship in Advanced Electron Microscopy

Ref: 6018

You will initially, for the first five years, be a research fellow based at the SuperSTEM facility at STFC Daresbury Laboratories in Cheshire where you will be primarily involved in collaborating with SuperSTEM users focussing on the strategic direction of research and innovation at SuperSTEM and pursuing the development of a particular research direction in advanced materials both at SuperSTEM and with synergies to current research in Chemistry, Electronic Engineering and Physics at the University of York. You will have opportunities to develop and contribute to some advanced level teaching and supervision of projects at York during this period. You will then automatically transition to a full-time University of York lectureship based at York, and will have the balance of duties in teaching, research and administration normally associated with a lectureship role. The University of York fully supports interdisciplinary research and, depending on your research interests at the time of your appointment, you will either be fully based in one of the departments, Chemistry, Electronic Engineering, Physics, or be a joint appointment between two of these departments.

You will have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or closely related experimental field and have a proven track record in experimental research and practical skills in the operation of aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopes. You will also have demonstrated oral and written communication skills with a range of audiences and publications. You will be highly motivated, working as part of a team and also working independently using you own initiative and developing your own research objectives and projects. You will have strong interest in developing teaching as a lecturer.

The salary will be within the range of £38,832 - £47,722 a year on an open contract. This is a full time position (37 hours a week).
