The salary will be paid at Grade 6, £33,518 per annum, plus £2,923 per annum London Allowance.

This post will be Fixed Term Contract for 18 months.

This is a full time post.

A fixed-term Research Associate position is available for an ambitious individual in the research group of Dr Ken Bruce. The successful candidate will be required to apply culture-independent molecular microbiological approaches (DNA extraction and live-dead cells separation, quantitative PCR, 16S rRNA gene sequencing and statistical microbiome analyses) in a project that will characterise the upper and lower respiratory microbiota of individuals with cystic fibrosis.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant discipline. They should be capable of working in a collaborative team, leading others where required. Experience with microbial characterisation using both culture and non-culture based approaches (including live-dead cell separation, DNA extraction, qPCR assays, 16S rRNA gene sequencing, MALDI-TOF and BIOLOG system and bioinformatics) is essential. Experience of working with respiratory samples is also essential. Additional skills in statistical analyses and teaching/training in laboratory settings would also be desirable.
