Widening Participation and Student Recruitment Assistant

University of Exeter - Communications and Marketing Services/Student Recruitment

This new full time post is available immediately on a permanent basis on our Penryn Campus.

The University of Exeter is a Russell Group university that combines world-class research with very high levels of student satisfaction. Exeter has over 21,000 students from more than 130 different countries and is in the top 1% of universities in the world with 98% of its research rated as being of international quality. Our research focuses on some of the most fundamental issues facing humankind today. Fifty percent of our organisation is made up of Professional Services support staff that partner closely with the Academic colleges to ensure we achieve our strategy and vision.

We are seeking a lively and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Widening Participation and Student Recruitment Assistant. The successful candidate will give presentations and run workshops in schools and colleges, assist in the management of incoming visits and on-campus events, represent the university at careers fairs and coordinate Widening Participation activity across academic colleges. They will work across both direct recruitment and widening participation activities and will be expected to undertake frequent travel within the south west region.

The Student Recruitment Office is responsible for both direct recruitment activity, such as organising open days and promoting the university to prospective students, and the widening participation agenda. Through our activities we aim to build effective relationships with schools and colleges to encourage students to progress to higher education in general and to Exeter in particular. Our work targets schools and colleges across the southwest and beyond. We deliver a range of activities and events designed to raise awareness of the opportunities that Exeter has to offer, as well as raising aspirations to higher education, in keeping with the University’s ongoing commitment to widening participation and fair access.

You will be:

  • Educated to degree level.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to work across a range of different projects, prioritising and managing time effectively.
  • You will often be in contact with prospective students, parents and teachers, and will therefore need to have a good knowledge of the issues surrounding progression to HE, a comprehensive knowledge of the undergraduate provision at Exeter, excellent communication skills, and be friendly, professional and customer-focused.
  • The role requires the individual to visit remote schools and colleges that public transport does not serve.
  • We require a good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

The University offers some fantastic benefits including 39 days leave per year, options for flexible working, numerous discounts at leading retailers, an onsite gym, a cycle to work scheme and a stunning campus environment in the heart of Exeter. If you are not currently in Exeter please have a look at our website for some further information on what a beautiful part of the country we are based in.
