Research Associate (Fixed Term)

University of Bath - Department for Health

Injury Surveillance in Youth Rugby

A great deal of attention has focussed on the risk of injury in rugby union, in particular in youth settings. The successful candidate will work on a project that aims to improve our understanding of the physical demands of youth rugby and to examine specific features of the game that have the highest likelihood of causing injury. The project will involve collecting information about injuries that occur during schools rugby matches and analysing video footage of matches to determine the demands of the game.

The successful candidate will join an experienced interdisciplinary team of academics in the Department for Health with an extensive track record of injury prevention research in rugby union and in other sports. Together, we will combine injury epidemiology with match analysis to improve understanding of injury patterns in youth rugby. The findings will be used to inform injury reduction strategies in schools rugby.

It is desirable that candidates have experience of, or a willingness to develop skills in, managing large data sets and employing advanced statistical approaches. Key attributes are the ability to work in a team environment and to communicate well with external stakeholders.

This is a full time, fixed term position with an anticipated start date in October or November 2017 and an expected end date of 31st March 2018.
