Communications Officer

The School of Biological Sciences is looking to appoint an experienced Communications Officer as part of a new team funded by a three-year BBSRC GCRF grant awarded to Prof. Gary Foster (CONNECTED - Community Network for African Vector-borne Plant Viruses). This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new project within the School.

The objectives of the grant are to build a sustainable network of scientists, to award pump-priming funding for a range of projects with African partners, to run seminars, workshops and training courses in the UK and Africa, to support collaboration between researchers in the UK and Africa and engagement with end-users, stakeholders and policy makers, to identify and facilitate opportunities for further research funding.

The Communications Officer will bring the strategy, vision and outputs of the Network grant to a wide range of national and international audiences.

You will develop and implement campaigns and other communication activity for the Network team. You will research target audiences, provide support with generating content and engagement across a range of communication channels including social media. Manage the external CONNECTED website and relevant University webpages.

About you

  • Excellent core skills across the communications mix, including web, social media, campaign design and PR
  • Able to engage and network effectively with a wide variety of people
  • The personality and drive to and ensure that the most effective communication channels are used
