Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in School of Entrepreneurship and Management (SEM)

Overview:
Work with the Dean of SEM to realize all aspects of the academic program. Primary responsibilities include stewardship of the curriculum, liaison with Academic Affairs Office within ShanghaiTech, advising students, enrollment, instruction, and coordinating with Executive Directors of Scientific Innovation Studios on curriculum and instruction; liaison with Distinguished Global Faculty and senior advisors on curricular issues; and coordinating research, capstone, studio and internships experiences. Act as a mentor to junior faculty.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage delivery of SEM’s unique curriculum including training courses for faculty (SEM and other schools) for required courses, working with faculty on development of syllabi and new courses, and coordinating co-teaching with faculty from other ShanghaiTech schools.
  • Execute all aspects of instruction and delivery of courses; work with Dean of SEM on hiring of faculty, faculty orientation, faculty evaluations, and enabling faculty to share teaching strategies. Ensure all courses have clear learning outcomes, learning rubrics and appropriate evaluation processes in place to measure outcomes.
  • Advise faculty on academic integrity issues and student performance.
  • Responsible for working with Academic Affairs Office on course scheduling and cross-listing of courses with other schools at ShanghaiTech; coordinating with Academic Affairs to resolve enrollment issues; and responding to student inquiries about SEM Innovation and Entrepreneurship Academic tracks.

Requirements:

Academic: PhD in any related fields of business (e.g. Finance, Economics, Marketing, Strategy, Management Science, Entrepreneurship, any Behavioral Sciences), with scholarly, research or relevant professional accomplishments commensurate with the rand of full professor in his or her home tenure department.

Work: Ideally 3 (three) or more years of demonstrated academic administrative experience in senior level administrative positions in a university or a research institute.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be extremely familiar with US/UK academic curricular standards. Experience working with or within a Chinese university is highly preferred. Must have effective communication and relationship building skills with multiple constituencies. Must possess the ability to interact with a large, diverse multi-cultural population. Must be fluent in Chinese and English.
