Lecturer in Law (Practice)

University of Salford - Salford Business School

Salford Law is proud of it’s reputation as a provider of an academically rigorous and practically relevant legal education. It has developed a pro bono offering (CLOCK) and is in the process of expanding these activities.

The department has responded proactively to changes in the nature of legal education, legal business formations, and the employment destination of law graduates. This has resulted in the production of a suite of five new law degree programmes and two new LLM programmes, which are designed to reflect the changing nature of the legal working environment.

At the core of these new degrees is the aim to prepare students for the possibility of employment in both the traditional legal professions as well as within commercial and third sector organisations.

In light of this sustained success, Salford Law within Salford Business School is now seeking more full-time Lecturer in Law Practice based staff members. For these posts Salford Law is looking to recruit candidates with a current legal practicing certificate, allowing the practice of law in the UK.

The successful candidate will have experience of forming links with the legal profession. Whilst this position would include some undergraduate and postgraduate teaching it is expected that the successful candidate would play a leading role in the further development of the practical and pro bono activities of Salford Law.

Whilst Salford Law welcomes applications in all fields of legal expertise, we would particularly welcome applications in relation to Criminal Law, Civil Litigation, Client Care Skills, English Legal Skills, Equity, and Contract Law.

This is an exciting time to play a key role in delivering transformation at Salford. The University is pursuing a new strategic plan, emphasising ‘real world’ objectives: education for employment, research for the real world and partnership with business. The University of Salford’s vision is that by pioneering exceptional industry partnerships we will lead the way in real world experiences preparing students for life.

This strategy is based on broad industry engagement led by four industry collaboration zones (Digital and Creative; Sport; Engineering and Environments; Health, Well-being and Society). These zones act as a focus for integrated working across the University and with partners in industry.

The School already has a strong industry focused ethos with collaboration with industry, business and professional associations at its core. Business is seen as a key enabler for the University’s industry collaboration zones and the strategy requires that the Business School work with other Schools to develop programmes, research and engagement strategies relevant to a variety of industry sectors. Salford Business School therefore supports the work of all four of these zones, and we would particularly welcome applicants whose interests align with these.
