Kent Union is a successful, vibrant and exciting organisation with a bright future ahead of us. We have achieved a great deal in the last few years, more than doubling in size to our current £11million turnover, 500 employees and 2,500 volunteers. We were re-accredited with Investor in People Gold status in December 2014, and were accredited with Leaders in Diversity in 2013; we were the first student’s union in the UK to achieve Investing in Volunteers status and we have been included in the Sunday Times 100 Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For, for 8 years, placed 24th for 2017.

The Advice & Information Services Department has grown considerably over the last few years and is now formed of; the Kent Union’s main reception; Home Stamp (a student housing accreditation scheme) and Student Advice Centres (located at Canterbury and Medway).

This role will be located in the Advice Centre which provides information, advice, guidance and assistance to any students studying (or hoping to study) a higher education course at the University of Kent.  This may be on the main University campus but maybe elsewhere.  The role of a Student Adviser is varied and can involve giving advice face to face, on the telephone, by email or providing information or assistance at an event.  Knowledge of issues facing students today or a higher education environment would be welcome but it is more important that the post holder is organised, self-motivated and someone who can work well within a team.  On occasions it may be necessary for the post holder to work at a different campus.

It is anticipated that this position will involve a two-year development and training scheme (the level and amount of which will be tailored to the needs of the successful applicant taking into consideration their current knowledge and experience) with salary reviews dependant on aptitude, progression and the successful completion of each year.  This will lead to the role of Student Adviser (with a salary commensurate to that role).  As this is a trainee position we would welcome applications from anyone with an interest in advice work who is interested in starting a career in this area or from someone who has some experience of advice work but which is not higher education related.
