Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Psychosocial Studies / Psychosocial Theory and Practice

University of East London - Department of Social Sciences and Social Work

Full-time (1.0 FTE) / Part-time (2 x 0.5 FTE)

At UEL, we pride ourselves on the real-world relevance of our courses and research, and the impact we are making in our east London community and the wider world. We are an open and inclusive university that is focused on transforming the lives of our students. Our corporate plan sets out an ambitious agenda for our future success, which focuses on the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning and excellence in research. UEL has almost doubled its output of world-leading research in recent years and 94 per cent of the research UEL submitted to the Research Excellence Framework 2014 was deemed to be of an at least internationally recognised level. In the last two years, we have risen 79 places in the National Student Survey league table, and we achieved our highest ever student satisfaction score in 2017.

The UEL student body is rich in its diversity: students are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and age-groups, with a high proportion from low income groups. We look for outstanding teachers and practitioners, who exude a love of teaching, who inspire students and colleagues through their approach to practice and teaching, and who are strongly committed to raising levels of student achievement.

A post has become available within the Department of Social Sciences and Social Work to teach on our Psychosocial programmes. We are looking to appoint a practitioner(s) who cross more than one service user group, ideally with HE teaching experience, to contribute to the provision of employability teaching, research, and administrative activities in the Psychosocial area. You will have an understanding of current policy and practice and training requirements in relation to working psychosocially with vulnerable populations. The success candidate(s) will support students on work experience and contribute towards modules that underpin the development of a practice focus for the Psychosocial area here at UEL.

You will be educated to PhD/professional doctorate in a relevant area or a professional practice qualification in Education, Family Therapy, or Social Work. You also should have current or recent practitioner experience in the statutory or voluntary sectors in health, welfare, social care, or a related field.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Darren Ellis – Programme Leader of the Psychosocial Studies and Psychosocial Theory and Practice BAs (d.ellis@uel.ac.uk) or Dr Heather Price – Programme Leader of Psychosocial Studies with Professional Practice BA (H.S.Price@uel.ac.uk). To obtain further details about this vacancy please visit our website at http://jobs.uel.ac.uk/ (reference number 022A2017). The closing date for applications is 12 October 2017.

CVs without completed application forms will not be accepted.

We are working actively to improve the diversity of our staff.
