Post Doc in Complex Innovation System Architecture

DTU Management Engineering invites applicants for a 2-year Post Doc in “Complex Innovation System Architecture”, starting ideally on December 1st 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The project will be based in the Engineering Systems Division led by Professor Anja Maier. 

The Engineering Systems division is growing fast and is characterised by a vibrant and supportive research environment with engaged staff and strong research collaborations with leading universities and industry worldwide. Our research focuses on understanding and improving the ways in which engineering systems are designed, managed, and operated throughout their life cycles. Our research spans the boundaries of 1. interdisciplinary engineering design (e.g. product design and development; systems engineering), 2. engineering project, programme and portfolio management, and 3. related policy, public engagement and strategic processes. 

Responsibilities and tasks
The project is situated at the intersection of design, policy making, and complex systems. It will be carried out in collaboration with the above-mentioned partners across Europe. 

Research activities will revolve around the design, implementation and validation of new data-driven and system-level visualisations, indicators for research and innovation, and data-analytics for engineering systems. The aim is to support policy makers and other decision makers with inclusive, timely, trusted, and open indicators and visualisations that allow for dynamic system exploration. The Post Doc will be responsible for: 

  • Technical and organisational project co-ordination of DTU’s role in EURITO, acting as the operational point of contact between DTU and other project partners.
  • Taking a lead role in the conceptualisation, procurement and co-development of data collection, visualisation and analysis tools to support DTU’s research on the EURITO project
  • Co-ordinating the contribution of the DTU team members throughout the EURITO project. This includes co-supervising two PhD candidates at DTU working on the project, on system architecture and system visualisation respectively.
  • Facilitating the co-creation process of indicators and visualisations that support policy makers and other decision makers. Stakeholders include large industry organisations, public agencies, and more generally, all those sharing the objective and mandate of designing and supporting complex industrial ecosystems for research and innovation.
  • Contributing to the dissemination of research results in both scientific and practitioner-oriented channels in coordination with project partners.
