This is a funding limited (up to 5 years) training post to support the teaching and research activities of Oral Medicine within the Dental School. It provides the opportunity for training of a clinical academic as part of the capacity building for the discipline of Oral Medicine within the Dental School. Clinical training will be a major focus of the post in order to ensure the appointee can successfully complete his/her CCST. The post will carry an NTN in Oral Medicine.

Following advice from the SAC for the Additional Dental Specialties, the Postgraduate Dental Dean has approved this post for training. The post has the requisite educational and staffing approval for Specialty training leading to the award of a CCST in Oral Medicine and Specialty Registration with the General Dental Council for appropriately qualified individuals.

The appointment is for up to five years, renewable annually subject to satisfactory work and progress.

Applicants for specialty training in Oral Medicine must be registered with the GDC, fit to practise and able to demonstrate that they have the required broad-based training, experience and knowledge to enter the training programme. The holder of the post will be expected to be in possession of a PhD in a subject appropriate for the discipline and have an appropriate track record of research.

Contracted hours: Standard hours: 40 per week

You will join our team delivering the BDS curriculum in Aberdeen.

You will be employed by the University of Aberdeen and also be awarded an honorary contract with NHS Grampian. This post provides a training in Oral Medicine based on the Curriculum for Specialist Training in Oral Medicine.

The clinical training in Oral Medicine will take place at the Dundee Dental Hospital under the supervision of Dr Elizabeth Theaker and Dr Clare Marney, Consultants in Oral Medicine. Additional clinical training in the medical disciplines pertaining to the specialist practice of Oral Medicine will be delivered by Consultants based at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Aberdeen.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Clinical Lecturer / Senior Lecturer Staff Salary Scale (£33,131 - £62,956 per annum). Placement on these salary scales will be according to qualifications and experience.
