Are you an experienced Technician with laboratory experience? Do you have experience in the preparation of reagents and microbiological cultures and the use of molarity, percentage, ratio and dilution formulae?

Working as part of the Technical Services team to provide technical support for the School of Biosciences you will ensure both staff and students receive appropriate assistance, including the preparation of laboratory based practical classes and upkeep of the teaching laboratory environment.

As a Technician you will:

  • Deal with the preparation of undergraduate and postgraduate student practical classes working from written schedules, preparing reagents and microbiological cultures, sometimes using molarity, percentage, ratio and dilution formulae.
  • Be responsible for setting up and clearing the teaching laboratories, setting up equipment and maintaining the stock of general consumables in the labs.
  • Respond to any problems during a practical class regarding the lab, equipment, reagents or chemicals.

To succeed in this role you will:

  • Have 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) including English, Maths and a Science Subject.
  • Proven laboratory experience, the preparation of reagents and microbiological cultures and the use of molarity, percentage, ratio and dilution formulae.
  • Excellent communication, being able to communicate effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing.

The School of Biosciences is a part of the University’s Faculty of Science, and teaches undergraduate degree programmes in Biochemistry, Biology and Biomedical Sciences. Research projects are also undertaken in the same disciplines. The laboratory research interests of the School include:

  • Protein Science
  • Molecular Microbiology
  • Biomolecular Medicine
  • Genome Evolution
