Research Associate in Testing Web Browser Security

Salary range: £36,800 to £44,220 per annum*

Full time, fixed term appointment for 24 months

To start January 2018

The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among UK Universities, and has consistently been awarded the highest research rating from the Higher Education Funding Council. In the 2014 REF assessment, the Department was ranked third (1st in the Research Intensity table published by The Times Higher), and was rated as "Excellent" in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.

We are looking to hire a motivated postdoctoral Researcher interested in working at the intersection of software testing, web security and program analysis. The research will focus on devising novel methods for automatically testing web browsers to find reliability issues and exploitable vulnerabilities. The successful candidate will support work under the supervision of Dr Benjamin Livshits and Dr Alastair Donaldson.

To apply, you will need to have a strong computing background, experience in building and working with large software systems and tools, and proven knowledge in web security or program analysis. Candidates are also expected to have a proven research record and publications in the relevant areas.

The successful applicant will have or be near completing a PhD (or equivalent) in an area pertinent to the subject area. You must have excellent communication skills and be able to organise your own work with minimal supervision and prioritise work to meet deadlines. *Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £32,390 - £34,040 per annum.
