Main Purpose of the Post

To deliver its top 30 ambition Swansea University is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer with excellence in teaching in the College of Human and Health Sciences.

A Senior Lecturer on an academic career pathway with excellence in teaching will be required to contribute to teaching and graduate supervision, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. In addition they are expected to share organisational and academic management responsibilities across the College where required.

The post also requires high quality delivery of teaching and student learning and a commitment to enhancing the overall student experience.

Main Duties:

1. Teaching (enhanced)

  • Responsible for the effective delivery of the teaching, assessment and quality assurance of modules or other equivalent components of the taught portfolio.
  • Responsible for reviewing course content and materials, and developing, designing and updating materials in compliance with quality standards.
  • Responsible for teaching innovation, ensuring teaching practice informed by research or by professional practice.
  • Dissemination, Impact and Esteem
  • Contributing to the wider academic community with demonstrable impact and recognition to institutional teaching impact
  • Advancing Practice by demonstrating how innovation, contribution and development have informed practice

2. Research (Core)

  • Demonstrating awareness of current research and knowledge in the field and integrating this into teaching by developing practice in the light of this activity.
  • Undertaking research or other systematic investigations into learning and teaching or of engagement in pedagogic and professional practitioner innovation and applying it to curriculum development and delivery
  • Making applications for resources necessary to underpin research activity, as appropriate to the discipline.
  • Delivering presentations at a conference, seminar or workshop with external reach/impact

3. Management (Core)

  • To contribute to College management duties, for example:
  • attending and contributing to appropriate committees and related activities,
  • participating in promotional activities such as open days, clearing and school visits;
  • participating in activities of the College aimed at enhancing employability, skills and student engagement.
  • carry out relevant managerial duties associated with academic posts, for example, duties in relation to student recruitment, induction, teaching and assessment.
