Budget Holder Trainer (Systems Team)

An opportunity has arisen for a budget holder trainer to introduce budget holder management across the University. This is a one year fixed term contract for a 0.5 fte. You should have significant experience of compiling and delivering training in a large and complex organisation specifically in the financial context of budget holder training. You will liaise with finance colleagues and a wide range of non-finance stake-holders to devise, compile, plan and deliver a programme of training for all identified budget managers. You should have excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic and pro-active. The post offers 25 days annual leave excluding bank holidays and closure between Christmas and New Year. You will be responsible for:

  • Liaison with financial and non-financial managers to devise budget holder training programme including Heads of Finance for the Faculties and Directorates
  • Liaison with Head of Financial Systems and Service Improvement to ensure that cost centre financial reports meet expectations of stakeholders
  • Liaison with Head of Legal Services and Deputy Director Finance to build in training on Financial Regulations and the Scheme of Delegation
  • Developing principles of good budget management and budget building as core competencies for budget holder responsibilities
  • Compilation and revision of training programme based upon stakeholder interaction and feedback
  • Presenting all feedback to Head of Financial Systems and Service Improvement and ensure updates and changes are made as applicable.

You should have:

  • Degree or Equivalent
  • Significant experience of developing and delivering financial management training, combining principles of good financial management, budget building and use of financial systems
  • Experience of training non-financial managers
  • Strong interpersonal, persuasive and communication skills with a demonstrable ability to work with people at all levels of the organisation
  • High levels of organisational skills, able to plan and manage objectives and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrable ability of taking initiative, self-motivation and commitment.
