Strategic Project Manager

University of Birmingham

The Strategic Project Manager post is one of the Senior Managers in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences’ Research and Knowledge Transfer (R&KT) Office, reporting directly to the College’s Head of R&KT. The Strategic Project Manager post has three broad areas of responsibility: providing leadership for a growing team of dedicated project managers (CRUK Centre Manager, ECMC Manager, Global Surgery Project Manager, Technology Transfer Officer and ESCP Research Manager) and delivering a wider project managers’ forum across the College of MDS; providing a point of co-ordination of joint University-NHS infrastructure initiatives within Birmingham Health Partners; and providing leadership for the post-award management of research within the College.

The post holder will be an integral member of the College’s R&KT Office, drawing on and enhancing the Office’s professional project management support function.  The post-holder will lead a team of project managers/administrators and will be expected to provide leadership across the College with regards to embedding good practice for professional project and post-award management.  Although based in the College of MDS, the post holder will need to work across UoB Colleges and central professional services, with colleagues managing other projects, partner organisations and funders, interacting effectively with both internal and external partners in order to fulfil and deliver the remit of the projects within their portfolio.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the R&KT Office and lead the Strategic Projects Team.  The individual will need to have demonstrable project management experience, ideally within the life sciences, and experience of leading and motivating a growing team.  The individual will need to work as part of the Office’s senior management team and contribute to the leadership of the wider team.  The College and wider University has ambitious future targets for growth and has experienced a successful year in terms of new grant awards, making it an extremely exciting time to join the organisation.
