Assistant Engineering Technician (Micro Preparation)

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield is seeking to appoint an Assistant Engineering Technician in the Materials Sample Preparation Laboratory. This laboratory supports many of research groups and undergraduate teaching facilities within the Department

Reporting to a Technical Engineering Team Leader, you will provide high quality technical support in the field of metallographic sample preparation and light microscopy. You will have an interest in, or experience of, using techniques such as polishing, cutting, grinding, etching, and sample mounting. Whilst experience in this area would be of a distinct advantage additional training will be provided.

In addition, you will administer the booking system for the laboratory, assist in promotion and implementation of Health and Safety procedure, and provide cover for colleagues in other areas of the Department as required.

Educated to a minimum BTEC or equivalent in an appropriate Engineering or Science related subject, you will contribute to development of this Departmental facility.
