The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow is home to Physicians, Surgeons, Dentists, Travel Medicine and Podiatric Medicine practitioners located nationally and internationally.  The College has a heritage of over 400 years and its purpose is the same today as it was at the beginning; to set and maintain standards of healthcare through its 13,000 Fellows and Members worldwide.  

Reporting to the Head of Examinations, the Examinations Manager focuses on the planning and delivery of all examinations offered by either the dental, surgical or medical team, including line management responsibility for staff members in the team.  The post holder needs to liaise closely with other managers in the Unit in order to ensure business continuity across the range of examinations, activities and services supported by the Unit. The role involves taking direction from the Head on strategy and applying it to collegiate and inter-collegiate examinations, delivering within agreed timelines and to requisite standards.  A clear grasp of the requirements of all aspects of the team’s examinations needs to be developed.  The Examinations Manager must have the required leadership capability and possess a grasp of the key issues of the Unit in order to stand in for the Head of Examinations during absence or leave if asked to do so.

The post-holder will require the following:

  • Qualified to degree level in a relevant discipline
  • Substantial relevant administrative experience
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant legislation (e.g. Data Protection Act, Equality Act)
  • Ability to interpret and apply detailed Regulations
  • Ability to produce innovative, evidence-based solutions
  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure
  • A sound knowledge of IT systems and database-management
  • Excellent inter-personal and team working skills
  • Ability to lead a team and collaborate with Unit, collegiate and inter-collegiate teams
  • Excellent communication skills in written and verbal media
  • Strong planning ability: experience of handling multiple projects simultaneously
  • Significant attention to detail
