Resident Director, London Program

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a 12-month, full-time administrative appointment. 


  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Ideally 3 years relevant professional experience in the UK
  • Knowledgeable about British culture
  • Immediately eligible to work in the UK
  • Experience with America systems of higher education and with college students from the U.S. 

The Resident Director is responsible to the Associate Dean for Global Education for directing all aspects of the college’s London Program and works in close collaboration with the Assistant Dean of International Education and the study abroad office in Pella, Iowa, as well as a dynamic and engaging team of resident directors in other locations. The program hosts students from Central College and partner colleges and universities on semester and summer programs in London, England. The Director teaches the common course and has oversight of academic programming, internship placements, curriculum, advising, registration, and grading processes. The Director coordinates students’ housing arrangements with the affiliate university, plans cultural programs, field trips and excursions, and facilitates contact with host country locals. The Director is responsible to monitor student welfare and safety, maintaining communication with the Central campus and managing situations in the event of an emergency. Other responsibilities include administration of the program budget, maintaining accurate financial records and monthly expense reports, and acting as liaison between Central College and the local community on legal and financial matters. The successful Director will strengthen current healthy relationships with Roehampton University and other organizations. The Director will also assist the Central College study abroad office with recruitment, advising, and pre-departure processes for students coming to London. 

Central College is a provider of a high-quality, high impact study abroad program in London for Central students and those from other colleges and universities across the U.S. Students have access to a wide range of classes at Roehampton University and its student organizations and most also participate in an internship. Guided field trips and excursions enhance the cultural course common to all of the students. 

Founded in 1853, Central College of Pella, Iowa, is a private, residential four-year liberal arts college known for its academic rigor and strength in global experiential learning, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), sustainability education, athletics success and tradition, and leadership and service. Central continues to value its long-standing relationship with the Reformed Church in America. The college participates in NCAA Division III athletics and is a member of the Iowa Conference.
