Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Operating Department Practice

Birmingham City University - School of Health Sciences

Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences

Location: City South Campus

Interview Date: Wednesday 8th November 2017

A fantastic opportunity exists for a committed and passionate perioperative practitioner to join our innovative team in our exciting new South-West partnership. Primarily based in Exeter, you will play a key role in the teaching and assessment of ODP students sharing your enthusiasm and knowledge in the education, training and support of our future Operating Department Practitioners. You will be expected to lead and/or contribute to modules in all areas of perioperative practice

You will also be involved in the support of mentors and students at our partner hospital placement sites, which will include clinical visits across Devon and Cornwall. In addition to substantial clinical experience, experience of supporting pre-registration students within the practice environment is essential. For the lecturer positions experience of teaching and assessing within Higher Education is desirable, but not essential. For the Senior Lecturer position previous experience of teaching and assessing is essential and experience of curriculum development would be advantageous.

For either position you must be an Operating Department Practitioner or Nurse holding current registration; and be able to demonstrate evidence of your professional development and experience in perioperative care practice.

You should hold a first degree, and for the Senior Lecturer position ideally hold or currently be working towards a higher degree. Anaesthetic experience would be an advantage, but is not a pre-requisite for the position.

Support will be given to the successful candidate to develop their personal and professional academic portfolio; including the opportunity to undertake our highly regarded Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in HE. You will be enabled to develop your skills and abilities to deliver innovation and excellence in academic practice.
