Senior Scholar Position in Global Studies

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world-class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high-level talents with global perspective, Chinese tradition and social responsibility.

At present, the University has programmes in science and engineering, management and economics, and humanities and social science. Its long-term goal is to have 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students. The University hires first-class teaching staff from around the world. The University has an international learning environment, a collegiate system, general education for all students, multidisciplinary programmes, and a student-centered educational philosophy. English is the main medium of instruction. Position and Expected Qualifications
The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK (SZ) invites nominations and applications for a senior scholar position in the area of global studies (broadly defined, including, but not limited to, international relations, international and regional studies, globalization development and trends, global governance, global sustainability, etc.). 

Candidates for this senior position are expected to have prior experience in leadership position(s) in the relevant areas, and to have attained professorship rank (or equivalent) or above (e.g., distinguished professorship, chair professorship) in competitive institutions. The successful candidate for this position is expected to serve as the leader in establishing and developing a center/program of excellence in the area of global studies (broadly defined, and name tentative). 

Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later, subject to successful performance evaluation and mutual agreement. In cases where a candidate has an established record of excellence and demonstrable potential for continued success, tenure may be offered to the candidate at the time of initial appointment.

The appointee is expected to commence work from January 2018 (the actual starting date is negotiable).

Salary and Fringe Benefits
Salary will be competitive, commensurate with relevant experience and accomplishments. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK (SZ), and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable in PRC. The work of appointee will be based in Shenzhen, China.
