Data Management Specialist

University of Sheffield - School of Health and Related Research (sCharr), Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health

Are you interested in working for a world top 100 University? We have an exciting opportunity within our large and diverse academic School of Health and Related Research, for someone with a real passion for world class research to use their skills in data management and data linkage to make an impact on health research within Yorkshire and Humber in the first instance, then nationally.

The aim of this research is to build a unique dataset, linking data from a number of providers of emergency and urgent care (EUC), to provide a coherent picture of EUC demand.  This rich data source will allow the EUC services to be viewed as a whole system, enabling demand on the system by patients and the flow of patients within the system to be analysed.

You will join the Centre for Emergency and Urgent Care Research (CURE), working on the Connected Health Cities Project and CLAHRC Yorkshire and Humber (Y&H) Avoiding Attendances and Admissions Research Theme.  You will use your data management skills to collect, clean and link all relevant, large datasets and prepare these for manipulation and analysis.

You will have a degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience, with experience of developing, managing, linking and manipulating data and databases.  You require excellent knowledge of dealing with confidential data and experience in programming/ scripting in one or more languages.  You will use your excellent communication skills to provide essential support to the small interdisciplinary team, and be able to prioritise multiple tasks in order to meet deadlines.  You will be willing to learn new skills, adapt to changing circumstances and undertake training and development in order to meet the demands of an evolving working environment.

We are one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development. We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles whose talent and contributions complement each other to the greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
