Full time starting salary is normally in the range £48,327 to £55,998. With potential progression once in post to £73,018 a year.

The Senior Research Fellow in Responsible Business will work in the Lloyds Banking Group Centre for Responsible Business on research led by the Chair in Responsible Business. Lloyds Banking Group Centre for Responsible Business offers a unique opportunity to work with a leading financial institution to inform the development of responsible business policy and practice, operating at the frontiers of intellectual development in the field of responsible business and education. The underlying objective of the Centre is to enable businesses to escape from the limiting, often self-destructive, consequences of intentional and unintentional irresponsibility. The Centre is envisaged as a challenge-centred, interdisciplinary research and engagement space with the mission to transform businesses along a responsibility path.

The Centre, in collaboration with research centres within the University of Birmingham and across the world, will collect, evaluate and disseminate authentic examples of corporate responsibility, which will be complemented by a process of critical enquiry into business irresponsibilities. It will evaluate the impact of key business responsibility thinking, initiatives and activities with a view to their potential application in different contexts. The Centre will lead curriculum development across the Business School and beyond in research-led teaching of Responsible Business.

The main duties of this post will include:

  • The management of the Centre’s research activities, including supervising research staff
  • Leading successful funding bids which develop and sustain research support for the Centre
  • Undertaking and publishing international quality research
  • Provide expert advice internally and externally
  • Provide leadership of research that contributes to the objectives of the Centre
  • Lead sustained high value impact activity in knowledge transfer
  • Supervise and examine PhD students, both within the institution and externally
  • Contribute to the research led teaching of modules developed by the Centre for Responsible Business.

Person spec

  • The applicant is expected to have a Ph.D. in a subject area relevant to responsible business
  • An excellent national reputation and a developing international profile through original research work and a clear record of impact. Evidence of success under the following headings, as appropriate to the aims and objectives of the Centre:
    • High level of esteem from peers
    • Excellent reputation in the UK and often internationally, reflected in sustained high quality output, level of innovation, impact on subject and
    • An excellent and sustained record of peer reviewed research
  • Successful and sustained supervision of doctoral students to completion.
  • Substantial and sustained research income generation, e.g. through research grants, contracts, research consultancy or other external funding.
  • Sustained high value impact knowledge transfer and enterprise that is of manifest benefit to the College and University.
