Teaching Fellow/ Senior Teaching Fellow in Equine Studies (Equine Lead)

University of Surrey - School of Veterinary Medicine

The University of Surrey’s, School of Veterinary Medicine offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced equine veterinary surgeon with enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge and clinical skills with our Veterinary Undergraduates.

The post-holder will assume the role of ‘Equine Lead’ within the School, having primary responsibility for monitoring and innovating the delivery of equine-specific teaching across the curriculum (vertical integration of knowledge, clinical skills and professional attributes). As well as teaching into the equine area, you will work alongside the Production and Companion Animal Leads to ensure that students receive the highest quality education, optimising graduate confidence and meeting the needs of the profession in a changing world.

The School offers state of the art teaching facilities including a dedicated large animal clinical skills teaching centre and extensive pathology services. We offer scope to develop and shape teaching in key areas, using both in-house animal facilities and through engagement with the authentic work-based learning environments within our partner network. Experience of academic teaching is beneficial but it is not a pre-requisite for this post.

The School of Veterinary Medicine follows a distributed model for final year clinical teaching. We are actively partnered with leading Equine Practices and Research Institutes to ensure delivery of this model. Our first cohort of students begin final year in July 2018. Clinicians and scientists from Partner organisations actively participate in teaching throughout the undergraduate curriculum and in postgraduate training for staff and CPD delegates.

Successful candidates will be RCVS-registered, ideally with postgraduate qualifications to complement those of existing staff. You will join a dynamic Department which acknowledges and funds the need for CPD and the maintenance of skills. The University offers an attractive salary package which includes a substantial holiday allowance, pension scheme and a 10% market uplift to MRCVS-registered staff.
