Researcher

NatCen Social Research

Location: Edinburgh (occasional travel to our London and Brentwood offices)

About the job

1 x Permanent position & 2 x FTC 12 Months

We are looking for talented individuals with a passion for social research to deliver and develop our work in Scotland.

We are recruiting exceptional research professionals to join the ScotCen team in Edinburgh. There are a number of roles available. One will be specifically associated with the Scottish Health Survey. Here the post holder will be expected to have a full involvement in all stages of the project including questionnaire design and development, survey implementation, fieldwork monitoring, analysis and report writing.

The other roles will be associated both with our other high profile, Scottish survey work and our portfolio of Scottish qualitative and mixed method research projects.  There is an opportunity to work on projects across both disciplines.

Our projects are at the heart of evidence-based policy making in Scotland across a range of subject areas including health, crime and justice, social attitudes and children, young people and families.

There will also be opportunities for involvement in the wider survey, analytical and methodological work of NatCen as a whole.

The successful candidates will be passionate about social research and its impact on policy and society. It would be desirable for applicants to have a social sciences degree with a research component, and undergraduate or postgraduate research experience would be an advantage. Essential attributes include good communication and team-working, an understanding of quantitative and qualitative methods appropriate for the level of the post, and an interest in policy relating to a range of substantive issues including public health, social attitudes, children and families or crime and justice.

You will usually work on different research projects at the same time. It is often a fast paced, quick response, ever-changing environment focussing on specific substantive and policy issues.  Our portfolio of research is varied and you would have opportunities to work across many different policy and substantive areas such as those noted above. We use the whole range of different research methods and your work will touch on all stages and tasks of the research process. You will work alongside passionate and knowledgeable colleagues across all your projects. You must share our objective of delivering our clients fascinating, ethical, rigorous research that contributes to social and policy issues that matter - on time and within budget.

If you believe you have the experience and qualities we are looking for then please get in touch.
