About the opportunity
Applications are encouraged from suitably qualified persons to join the Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics at the University of Sydney as a team leader. The Lambert Initiative was founded in 2015 with a large philanthropic donation from Barry and Joy Lambert and has recently located to modern laboratories within the Brain and Mind Centre. The Lambert Initiative undertakes a wide range of preclinical and clinical studies and has a core mission to develop novel cannabinoid based therapeutics for a range of disease states including epilepsy, cancer, pain and neurological conditions (see 

We are looking for a Team Leader in Medicinal Chemistry who will coordinate and lead Medicinal Chemistry research activities within the Lambert Initiative, provide effective leadership and support to the Lambert Initiative team of postdoctoral fellows and postgraduate students specialising in Medicinal Chemistry and related areas, support the development of Lambert Initiative through representation, engagement and the development of strong linkages with professional, industry and community groups relevant to the Initiative's activities both on a national and international level. 

Appointments are nominally at Academic Level C but that appointment at a higher or lower level can be considered according to qualifications and experience of candidates.

  • A high level of academic leadership, professional standing and technical experience in chemistry research, preferably with a focus on cannabinoid therapeutics.
  • Experience with research student supervision or co-supervision
  • Excellent track record of publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, preferably in the field of cannabinoid science.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact and negotiate with people from diverse fields and backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and time management skills
