Research Associate

Imperial College London - Department of Mechanical Engineering & Dyson School of Design Engineering

Salary Range: £36,800 – £44,220 per annum*

Fixed Term appointment for up to 16 months

A research position has become available in the Electrochemical Science & Engineering Group in the Mechanical Engineering Department and Dyson School of Design Engineering, at Imperial College London. The successful applicant will join a large, mature and growing research group, and be part of the Innovate UK project ALICE working with industry to develop new and improved lithium hybrid capacitors. You will develop physics based models of lithium hybrid capacitors, both to help cell designers to optimise the devices, and also to help users to optimise the system around them.

Applicants must have a good undergraduate degree/ MSc in Physical Sciences, Maths or Engineering and a PhD in Physical Sciences, Maths or Engineering (or equivalent experience).

Knowledge of electrochemistry and previous experience in physics based modelling of electrochemical devices at the cell level is necessary for this position. Applicants should have previous experience conducting research and publishing in peer reviewed journals. Knowledge and experience of lithium ion batteries, supercapacitors and/or lithium hybrid capacitors would be considered an advantage.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 - £34,040 per annum.
