About the opportunity
The University of Sydney is seeking to appoint to the Westmead Clinical School of the Sydney Medical School a Chair in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) from suitably qualified medical graduates. 

The University of Sydney has received a large benefaction to establish an Institute of Reproduction on the Westmead Hospital Campus. It is planned to co-locate academic and research activities of the two phases of reproduction represented by Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Maternal Fetal Medicine, achieving a pregnancy and carrying it to a successful outcome. This position is one of two Foundation Chairs for the Institute of Reproduction. 

The Chair in Maternal Fetal Medicine is responsible for providing leadership and fostering excellence in research, teaching and clinical care in the Discipline of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology within the Sydney Medical School and Westmead Hospital. You will also be required to develop an administrative structure within the Institute. You will report to the Associate Dean of the Westmead Clinical School - Sydney Medical School for academic matters, and to the Head of the Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine and, in turn, to the Clinical Director of Women’s Health at Westmead Hospital for clinical matters. This is an existing position, which was held previously by Professor Brian Trudinger. 

To succeed in this position, you must be a medical graduate registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists or an equivalent specialist recognition, and/or possess other or equivalent specialist recognition also recognised by the Australian Health Insurance Commission. In addition, you will hold a PhD or other higher research degree, or equivalent qualification and demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching, research and service. You will have a successful track record in obtaining competitive research funding and supervising postgraduate research students. 

Term and remuneration
The appointment is full-time, fixed-term for five years with a possibility of further appointment on a continuing basis, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees, and will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
