About the opportunity
A Postdoctoral position is available in the area of image analysis and visualisation particularly for biomedical images of musculoskeletal structures. The position is full-time fixed term for five years, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. There is also the possibility of further offers of employment subject to performance, need and funding. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees. 

The Postdoctoral Research Associate’s research focus will be on the derivation of novel algorithms to detect, and characterise musculoskeletal defects from biomedical images. An ideal candidate would be capable of developing novel frameworks to model these defects for use in the fabrication of customised medical devices. The candidate is expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and have the capacity to work across a number of different projects, including those that may emerge as a part of ongoing research. 

The primary responsibilities of this position will include designing segmentation algorithms, creating 3D visualisations, and computational modelling. In all cases, mentors will be working with the researcher on a regular basis and all work will be performed in a collaborative team environment, alongside senior academics, clinicians, research students, and industry partners. 

Applications should include a research plan (not to exceed five pages), a detailed resume including a publications list, and the names and addresses of at least two references.  The research plan should include half a page to one page outlining a program of research that you will lead and providing a strategic vision for your future research.

  • A PhD (or expected graduation in 2018) in computer science or engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Prior research experience in computerized image analysis and visualisation.
  • Demonstrated success in the publication of high-impact work in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a multidisciplinary team, especially with clinicians.
  • Ability to work in a complex and challenging environment.
