The Department of Microbial Sciences at the University of Surrey is recruiting an exceptional individual to the following academic position:

Professor of Molecular Systems Biology

The position will be within the Systems Biology section in the Department of Microbial Sciences, part of the School of Biosciences and Medicine in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. Having a strong record in interdisciplinary research, the Faculty is committed to providing an open and creative research environment that enables ground-breaking discoveries for health and society.  Areas of research strength within the School include clinical medicine and ageing, bacteriology, nutritional sciences, oncology, molecular & synthetic biology, immunology and virology.

Our ideal candidate will combine quantitative, theoretical and experimental approaches to address fundamental questions in the life sciences. Candidates with research interests aligned with current research in the section, e.g. furthering our understanding of molecular interaction networks, are particularly sought. Research in the section includes metabolic modelling and engineering, basic and applied synthetic biology, RNA biology, stochastic process analysis, data mining and machine learning.

The candidate will be expected to evidence an outstanding track record of achievement in scholarship and research, and have a clear strategy to attract and secure significant research funding. The candidate will also be required to contribute to teachingat both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
