Postdoctoral Research Associate in Adrenal Hypertension

Applications are invited for a post in Professor Brown’s group within the William Harvey Heart Centre, part of the internationally renowned William Harvey Research Institute at Barts & The London School of Medicine & Dentistry. The laboratory has interests in the pathophysiology of the human adrenal, and is investigating the cause and consequence of the somatic mutations we discovered in aldosterone-producing adenomas. This includes ex vivo analyses of novel diagnostics, and treatments which may inhibit aldosterone production and/or survival of aldosterone-producing cells. We seek experience in molecular and pharmacological techniques for study of fresh and frozen tissue, and the ability to establish new techniques including 3D culture and adrenal slices. The appointee will also play an important role training graduate MSc and PhD students participating in projects concerned with new diagnostic and treatment modalities for patients with primary aldosteronism.

The post requires highly motivated and dynamic candidates with good communication, attention to detail, good organisational skills and computer skills. The successful candidate needs a PhD degree in an appropriate biological science.

This is a full time position that can begin immediately and runs for three years. Starting salary will be £32,956 – £43,152 per annum dependent on experience. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
