Development Officer (Fund Raising)

University of Cambridge

An exciting vacancy has arisen for a Development Officer (Fund Raising) at Corpus Christi College. This is a rare opportunity to join an experienced and dynamic team in a small, very friendly College in the centre of Cambridge.

Corpus Christi is one of the oldest colleges in the University, founded in 1352 by the townspeople of the city. The College has an active and established programme of alumni relations and fundraising, run by the Development team comprising the Director of Development and Communications, the Legacy and Annual Fund Manager, the Alumni Relations and Communications Officer and the Office Administrator. We have close relationships with our alumni, a very successful track record in fund raising, a busy events calendar, a high participation rate of giving and a well-established legacy programme. Recent momentum has been particularly strong.

The Development Officer will be responsible for cultivating and raising smaller to mid-level gifts and pledges (£5,000 - £100,000) and developing new relationships with donors to strengthen our fund raising efforts. The role provides an important link between our annual giving programme and the principal gifts work led by the Development Director.

We are looking for an intelligent, energetic, highly motivated person with experience of fundraising in the charity sector, preferably in higher education. No beginners please. However, we are willing to consider other backgrounds with compatible experience and skills. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about their work, outgoing and confident and enjoy fund raising for this extremely worthy cause. He or she will enjoy working towards and achieving targets. Familiarity with relevant databases would be useful and excellent written and spoken English is essential.

Education to degree level is also extremely important.

There is scope for promotion and further responsibility for the right person.

Some overseas travel is expected to be part of the job.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone to play a key role in this highly successful office. The successful candidate will be an essential player in our campaign to raise funds for student bursaries, fellowships, access and outreach and buildings. The Corpus campaign – Funding the Future – runs alongside the University campaign ‘Dear World … Yours, Cambridge’.

In return, you will receive a very competitive salary, excellent benefits and conditions of employment, including a pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement, car parking and use of College facilities.

Further enquiries may be made by email: or telephone: 01223 339718.

Interview Date: Expected to be in the week starting 6 November.
